This is my first post on health and fitness. Someone asked me if I could talk about my diet and I decided I wanted to make it into a regular feature in which I share healthy recipes, workout schedules that work for me, tips for staying healthy and fit... I'm nowhere near perfect, and I still want to lose a couple pounds myself, so I can also share my journey with you.

I'd love to start with fitness. Exercice is so important. You can definitely lose weight by eating less, but exercice just makes everything easier. I feel so much better now that I work out!
If you don't already work out, then here are some things you should keep in mind...

With time, you will be able to do more.
I was never a runner. I hated it! i'm still not a big fan of running outdoors – I love running on a treadmill. At first, I felt like I couldn't do anything. I'd get tired so quickly and feel lame because I couldn't run as long as "a normal person"(...what!?) When I finally realized I was getting stronger and better with time, I felt so much better.

Stop with the excuses!
When I came to Smith, I really wanted to go to the gym often. At first, I did what I always had done... I didn't go. I found excuses like "I don't have time" or "I have so much homework..." It was never true, like everyone, I procrastinated. This year, I have a Mon/Wed/Fri class that ends and 9:50am and one that starts at 11am. PERFECT. I have an hour in between to work out! So that's three times a week I can go to the gym. I'm also taking an aerobics class on Tuesdays & Thursdays. That's five times a week in total! Find time to work out.

Don't think that because you work out, you can eat more.
Ha! That's one of the things I used to think every single time... Oh, well I went to the gym so now I can have all this food! The goal was not just to feel stronger and to have a toned body but to lose some weight. I actually remember my dad telling me that I wouldn't lose weight just by working out, I had to change the way I ate. It made me so sad because I love food! I finally went on a diet that worked SO WELL for me and ever since I've never put on the weight because I learned how to eat well.

Buy some quality work out clothes.
Any excuse for new clothes! No, really. I have two Adidas pants - these purple ones, and some black ones, one blue VATA tank top, and some good sneakers. (I really need more work out clothes since I go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week) I only recently got the tank top from Active Wear USA and I love it. I'd been using normal Forever 21 tank tops before that. Yes, they work fine but this... it's awesome, I love it and I definitely want more. They always say these clothes are "breathable" and I never know what that means, but I get it now. Here are some of my suggestions (and also on my wish list): Yoga pants. Workout tank top. Running shirt. Tennis dress. Running short. Running bra. Cycle shirt.

I have so much more to say! I'll try to be back next week with a post about food, the diet I was on, and the tips that helped. I'll also talk about some fun "challenges" I give myself at the gym... that have worked for me so far! yay!

Stay healthy.
Cheers, Vx
